Obituary for Patricia A. "Pat" Bovee (Tohulka)

Patricia A. Bovee, 77, of Florence, Wisc., joined her heavenly Father on Thursday, January 12, 2023. She was born in Fond du Lac, Wis., daughter of the late Kenneth and Katherine (Curtin) Tohulka.

Pat attended St. Mary’s Springs Academy and graduated at the top of her class in 1963. Wanting to follow in her father’s footsteps, she decided to pursue a career as a pharmacist. She began her pharmaceutical studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and then went on to graduate from the University of Illinois-Chicago, where she received her Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmacy. Pat worked as a Registered Pharmacist for multiple pharmacies in Iron Mountain, Mich., until she became the Director of Pharmacy at Crystal Falls Community Hospital, which later merged with Iron River Community Hospital. In 2000, Pat continued her career at Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain, Mich., for 22 years until her retirement late July 2022.

In her free time, Pat enjoyed reading her extensive book and magazine (Smithsonian, Audubon, and National Geographic) collections, with a particular fascination for history. She was especially fond of the Outlander books and TV series. Pat was known for her sharp mind, her witty humor, her wonderful cooking, and her creativity that was shown through drawing, painting, sewing, and costume-making. She looked forward to spending time with friends playing bridge, sipping coffee, or eating a good meal; she will be missed by friends from the VA, church, and senior center, as will the great conversations she had with all.

Pat’s belief in the Catholic faith was central to her life. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Florence, WI, and she had a great devotion to the Holy Rosary which she prayed multiple times each day. Pat’s love and kindness was shown through her dedication to caring for her pets and wildlife, as well as her excitement and preparation for spending time with family. She will be remembered as a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend.

Pat is survived by her three children, Eric, Brad, and Bridget Bovee; three grandchildren, Austin Bovee, Hunter Renier, and Verity Altenberger; great-granddaughter, Cyra Bovee; sister, Eileen Dunn; and two loving golden retrievers, Ciara and Bianca.

In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Robert Tohulka; and her sister, Jean Ann Tohulka.

Visitations will be held at Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home in Florence, Wisc., on Friday, January 20, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and again Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am at the Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home. Following the Saturday visitation, the Funeral Mass will begin at 12:00 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Florence with Father (Lou) Lourdhu Madanu presiding. A luncheon will take place after the funeral mass.
