Obituary

Obituary for Michael L "Mickey" Moroni

Kingsford – Michael L. Moroni, 80, of Kingsford, Mich., passed away, Saturday, November 21, 2020, at Dickinson County Health Services, Iron Mountain, Mich.

Mike was born on November 4, 1940, in Norway, Mich., son of the late Louis and Gertrude (Neldberg) Moroni. He was a lifelong resident of Kingsford and graduated from Kingsford High School, class of 1958. Mickey married Mary Berutti on August 27, 1960, at American Martyrs Catholic Church, Kingsford, with the reception held at the Dickinson Inn, Iron Mountain. He was a very active member of American Martyrs and was a server from his early childhood through his 80 years. Mickey was proud to have graduated with the first class of the American Martyrs Catholic School, Kingsford, and was proud to be the first one to be baptized at the church by Fr. Hughes.

Mickey was a very ambitious builder and entrepreneur and was proud to have been involved in many local businesses. He was the founder of Evergreen Senior Living, Kingsford, which is owned and operated by his family today. Mickey, along with his wife Mary, wintered in Bonita Springs, Fla., where they were both active members in the Vasari Country Club community. He served on the First Bank Advisory Board for many years. Mickey was a 50+ year member of the Pine Grove Country Club, Iron Mountain, the Chippewa Club, Iron Mountain, and 678 Club. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, along with his wife Mary, and being part of the “Bridge Club” throughout their married life. He enjoyed hunting and built a camp for his family to continue his passion. Mickey was an avid Kingsford Flivver Fan and never missed a home or away game.

In the hearts and minds of his family members, he left behind a work ethic that can only be taught by example; a yearning to carry on his legacy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary; two daughters Jane Moroni, Kingsford, Mich. and Jennifer (Chip) Anderson, Kingsford, Mich. and their children Michael and Ben; one brother Thomas (Michael) Moroni, Woodbury, Minn.; one sister Jill (Robert) Imel, Sagola Township, Mich.

A private family visitation will be held at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, November 25, 2020, at 11:00 AM at American Martyrs Catholic Church, Kingsford, Mich. Rev. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will be in Breitung Township Cemetery, Quinnesec, Mich.

Memorials can be made to American Martyrs Catholic Church in Mickey’s memory.

Mary, Bruce and I are heartsick about Mike’s passing. We have so many wonderful memories of dinners at the Club with you both. We would love to be there, but we’d want to hug you, and with the rise of cases, we feel we need to stay at home. Please know you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time. Once things get back to a more normal situation, we would like to get together. Take care, be safe. Love, Linda & Bruce

I can never say thank you enough to Mike. Took the time to teach me to build and have a work ethic, which has set me up in Life. Blessed to have such a role model.

Kevin and Charlotte

We always enjoyed our time with Mike, whether on the Vasari golf course, at dinner or just meeting up on the street. He was able to make your day better with a smile and he always had another joke. He was very special and we will miss him dearly. Our condolences to Mary and the family at this very difficult time.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Mike. He was a compassionate hard working and very talented man. He will truly be missed by all of us here at Evergreen Village. We visited with him many times at the complex. He always made us smile with his wit and banter. You are in our thoughts and wish you strength and peace in the days ahead. Sincerely, Karen and Ossie Weinert
