Obituary for Michael G. "Myke" Forstrom

Iron Mountain- Michael G. “Myke” Forstrom, 78, of Quinnesec, Mich., passed away Saturday, May 1, 2021, at his home.

He was born June 23, 1942, in Michigan, son of the late Gunnar and Irene (LaHaie) Forstrom. Myke married Cheryl Powers on January 25, 1960, in Iowa. Following marriage, they resided in Omaha, Nebraska, before moving to Quinnesec, where they have lived the past 49 years. Myke worked for Lee Lofstrom Penn. Oil Company and later for Forstrom Heating, which he opened in 1978 and retired in 2008. He was a whistling furnaceman by his customers, friends, and family. Myke’s favorite saying when people would ask how he’s doing “finer than frog hair on a hummingbird.”

He enjoyed going to his camp in Felch, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time there with family and his special brother-in-law Bruce Powers. Myke coached baseball in Quinnesec for many years.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Cheryl Forstrom; two sons, Derek “Dek” Forstrom, Quinnesec, Mich., and Douglas (Paula) Forstrom, Kingsford, Mich.; one daughter, Anna (Rick) Forstrom, Quinnesec, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Cheryl Jean, Jessica, Michael, Sarah, Gunnar, Steven and Molly; and three great-grandchildren, Ayden, Brielle, and Bristol.

In addition to his parents, Myke was preceded in death by one brother, Douglas Forstrom; and two sisters, Vicky Bednard and Ann Marie Jones.

In accordance with Myke’s wishes, private family services will be held.
