Obituary for Mary Kathleen Hamari (Kane)

NEW BRIGHTON, MN – Mary Kathleen “Kathy” Hamari, 74, of New Brighton, Minn., went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 5, 2021, following recent health challenges.
Kathy was born April 11, 1946, in Washington D.C., daughter of the late Anthony and Margaret Mary (Moore) Kane. She was also preceded in death by her husband Al Hamari in June of 2020, to whom she was deeply devoted to and loved and to whom she married on November 20, 1976.

Kathy graduated from Our Lady of Peace High School in 1964 and St. Katherine’s University in 1968 in the Minneapolis / St. Paul, Minnesota area with a major in speech and drama. After graduation, Kathy became involved in the local theatre “Theatre St. Paul” as well as doing volunteer work for the local public TV. As an extension of her volunteer work, Kathy, over the course of her life, was very passionate about meeting the many different kinds of needs that people had, from food pantries to the homeless, and was a lifelong supporter of the sanctity of life. Her faith, love, and kindness, along with a selfless and giving spirit, touched many people not only locally but also on a global basis. She was always very proud of her “Irish” roots, which she often displayed in her unmistakable and vibrantly green apparel.

In recent weeks, Kathy became a great grandparent for a second time which brought her great joy. To those who knew Kathy, the precious gifts of children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren, were never taken for granted. In her final days at the hospital, all of the doctors and nurses who provided care for her knew that a great-grandson was coming and celebrated with her in that very personal experience with her, the miracle of birth for another family member.

She is survived by her son; Tim (Lisa) Oatley and his daughters Jessica (Alex) Martin and great grand-daughter Lula; Stephanie (Josh) Rajala and great-grandson Jackson; son Tom (Erin) Oatley and his daughter Alicia; her Siblings; brothers Thomas (Karen), Timothy (Brenda), Dennis (Susan), Nicholas, Gerald, her sisters Keelin (Mark); Susan (Kathryn); And many nieces and nephews.

Kathy blessed many lives throughout her lifetime and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

A graveside ceremony will take place on Friday, March 19, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at the Quinnesec Cemetery, Quinnesec, Mich. Rev. Jim Danielson will officiate.
