Obituary for Marjorie Ellen Olson (Bjorkman)

Grandville - Marjorie Ellen Olson, 88, of Quinnesec, peacefully entered the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Cambridge Manor in Grandville following a brief illness. Marge was born in Niagara, Wis., on September 17, 1932 to Elof and Ethel Bjorkman. She grew up in Niagara and graduated from Niagara High School with the Class of 1950. After her marriage to Edward C. Olson on October 14, 1950, the couple lived in Norway, MI, for six years, then moved to Quinnesec, MI, where they lived for the rest of their 63 years of marriage. Edward preceded Marge in death on February 3, 2014.

In addition to being a devoted wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma, Marge worked as a secretary for the Breitung Township Schools for 20 years. Ed and Marge were founding members of the Community Bible Chapel in Norway and later were active members of First Baptist Church of Iron Mountain. They set a wonderful example for their children of devotion to the Lord and to family. Their home was always a warm, inviting place for Sunday dinners, family visits and holidays, enlivened by Marge’s ever-present humor and good cheer. Even in her last days her sense of humor was constantly evident.

Marge is survived by three sons, Tom (Virginia) Olson of Hudsonville, MI; Rick (Debbie) Olson of Norway; MI, and John (Julie) Olson of Conway, AR; and one daughter, Ruth (Richard) Williams of Tel Aviv, Israel; brother William (Helen) Bjorkman of Kingsford, MI; and sister Doris Bjorkman of Santa Teresa, NM.

Marge also is survived by ten grandchildren: Joel (Alyssa) Olson of Jenison, MI; Katie (Matt) Miller of Hudsonville, MI; Jim (Tricia) Olson of Morton, IL; Matthew (Ashley) Olson of Portland, OR; Christie Olson of Kingsford, MI; Zachary Moix of Draper, UT; Benjamin Olson of Ann Arbor, MI; Elizabeth Williams of Des Moines, WA; Michael Williams of Spring Lake, NC; and Kristen Williams of Columbia, SC. Her nine great-grandchildren were a source of great joy in her last two years in Grandville: Grace, Alex, Alaina and Lucas Olson of Jenison; Grant, Addie and Kylee Miller of Hudsonville; and Jackson and Lena Olson of Morton, IL.

In addition to her loving husband Ed, Marge was preceded in death by one son, James Olson, a volunteer firefighter who died at age 18 in the Quinnesec Explosion in July 1974, and by her brothers Leslie, Clarence and James Bjorkman; one grandchild; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 29,2021 at Community Bible Chapel, W6507 US Highway 2, Norway, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m., with Pastor James Danielson officiating. Burial will follow at Quinnesec Cemetery.
