Obituary for Marcene Fuse (Andreini)

Iron Mountain- Marcene Fuse, 100, of Iron Mountain, Mich., entered eternal rest on Friday, September 9, 2022, at Evergreen Meadows, Norway, Mich.

She was born August 29, 1922, in Loretto, Mich., daughter of the late Louis and Mary (Roani) Andreini. Marcene later became a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain. She was an honor graduate of Iron Mountain High School, class of 1940, where she served as class president and also prom queen in her junior year. Marcene was introduced to the business world by her uncle Joseph (Penny) Andreini when she was a freshman in high school. She worked as a bookkeeper at the Northside Service Station (Texaco). On Friday evenings, she worked at the Braumart Theatre as a cashier. Upon graduation from high school, she was employed by Wisconsin-Michigan Power Company as a secretary to the company manager. After working days at the power company, she worked in the evening for Dr. Jamiel Jacobs as a bookkeeper at his dental office. She later was an executive assistant at Andreini’s Appliance and Furniture Land, retiring at the age of 75.

Marcene was a loving, caring, and giving person who enjoyed helping and working with people. She was united in marriage to Alfonse A. Fuse on October 30, 1945, at the Immaculate Conception Church, both being lifetime members of the church. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in October of 1995 and enjoyed 61 years of marriage. Marcene was active in many church and civic organizations: WI-MI Power Company Employee Benefit Club did all the class reunions for Iron Mountain class of 1940, was president of Immaculate Conception Ladies Guild and Christian Mothers, coordinated funeral luncheons for 30 years, as well as Father’s Day dinners, and bingo activities. She was a member of the BPW, Daughters of Isabella, where she served as Regent, as well as serving as a Eucharistic Minister and secretary in the Religious Education Program at her parish. Marcene was an active volunteer in many community organizations, including Paisano Club, escort service at the VA and Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, “Gray Lady” for the American Red Cross at the VA, assisted with the Carmelite Sisters Silver Tea for many years, and volunteered at the local area nursing homes. She was named Business Woman of the Year by the BPW in 1989 and honored as First Lady of Dickinson County in 2000.

Marcene enjoyed traveling with her family and visited 49 states, numerous European countries, and many Canadian provinces. She enjoyed the dances at the Senior Center on Friday nights. Marcene was blessed to have the opportunity to greet and talk personally with; St. Paul VI, St. John XXIII, St. John Paul II, and Pope Benedict XVI. In addition, she met and spoke with Brett Farve, George Bush, and other political figures.

Survivors include two sons, Robert (Teresa) Fuse and John (Cheryl) Fuse, both of Iron Mountain, Mich.; one daughter, Mary Jo (Don) Hanson, Ada, Mich.; four grandchildren, Mark Fuse, Marquette, Mich., Angela (Matthew) Whitener, Alanson, Mich., Tony (Kolby) Hanson, Grand Rapids, Mich., and Lauren (Brad) Bartrem, Royal Oak, Mich.; five great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Cole Whitener, Ava and Thomas Fuse, and Blake Bartrem; six nephews, Dr. Ron (Shirley) Patten, Ray (Roberta) Pataconi, Dr. Jeffrey (Sandy) Andreini, Gerald Agnew, Jack (Mary) Andreini and Todd (Charlotte) Andreini; as well as many cousins.

In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Alfonse, Marcene was preceded in death by brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter (Elda) Andreini, Gerald (Patricia) Andreini; an infant son; and one niece, Susan (Andreini) Agnew.

Marcene was a gifted and talented person and will be missed by many. She always put other people’s needs and interests before her own and lived a full and happy life with her family and many friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 20, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, 11:00 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain, Mich. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will officiate. Burial will take place in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory for the Parkinsons Foundation and Cardiac Research.
