Obituary for Lucille B. Villa (Broullire)

Lucille (Broullire) Villa, 95, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away peacefully on October 23, 2022, at Evergreen Meadows in Norway, Michigan. She was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain, moving only one block during her entire life.

Lu was a very kind and sweet lady with a positive attitude and a great sense of humor. She was proud to be a Mountaineer and was a cheerleader during high school. She met her future husband, Doug, while both were working at the Braumart Theatre. She loved spending time on the Spread Eagle Chain of Lakes at the family cottage built by her husband, her father, and her father-in-law. Lu was a loving wife, mother, and a great homemaker. She had many hobbies, including the Thursday bridge club she belonged to for many years (always making extra fudge and divinity for the family to enjoy when she hosted), planting flowers around her yard, card and ribbon making, cake decorating, playing bingo, bicycling around Lake Antoine and snowmobiling. She spent many late nights sewing clothing for herself and her children, including a wedding gown for her daughter-in-law. During retirement, Doug and Lu spent many winters at the Tree Lakes Resort in Palmetto, Florida, where they learned shuffleboard, bean bag, and line dancing. Doug and Lu were great dancers. She purchased her first car, a convertible (Lu’s Toy), and enjoyed driving this after retiring from the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Community Federal Credit Union.

Lucille was a very devout Catholic and was a long-time member of St. Mary & St. Joseph Church and the Immaculate Conception Church. She was proud of the years she served in the Daughters of Isabella; she held the auditor position in her later years.

Lucille is survived by her children—Dr. Douglas L. (Kay) Villa, Sandy (Tom) Mogush, Terry (Colleen) Villa, Sue (Dan) Fallon, Sally (Tom) Groleau, and Sara (Dave) Michals; Grandchildren--Nicole, Heather, Julia, Kalyn, Jacki, Ashley, Mike, Brian, Ryan, Megan, Joseph, Jonathan, and Samantha; and 20 Great-Grandchildren who affectionately referred to her as Grandma Great or GG.

Lucille was pre-deceased by her husband of 64 years, Douglas G. Villa, her parents, Adolph and Ella Broullire, her sister, LaVerne Gadow; an infant brother, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lewis and Julia Villa; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Arbogast.

The family expresses appreciation and gratitude for the many years of exceptional care Lu received from Tina, Emily, Cindy, Tammy, Becky, and the kind and compassionate caregivers at the Memory Care Unit at Evergreen Meadows in Norway, Mich. The family also acknowledges the prayers and support from Msgr. Kaczmarek.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 27, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich. Prayers will be recited Thursday, 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Immaculate Conception Church in Lu’s memory. Their address is 500 Blaine Street, Iron Mountain, MI 49801.

The family has chosen the Jacobs Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Iron Mountain, Mich., to honor Lucille’s legacy of life.
