Obituary for Leigh A. Johnson

Florence- Leigh A. Johnson, 86, of Florence, Wisc., passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay, Wisc.

He was born October 10, 1936, in Florence, Wisc., son of the late Harold and Lorraine (Pollari) Johnson. Leigh grew up and attended school in Florence. Following graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge. Leigh returned to Florence and worked as a technician supervisor for the US Forest Service for 35 years before retiring in 1991.

He was a co-founder of the Florence County Hardball Association as well as serving as president. Leigh oversaw the hardball and softball fields being built in Florence. He was also a founding member and president of the Florence Rescue Squad. Leigh was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed deer hunting, walks in the woods, and photographing wildlife.

Survivors include two sons, Mark (Sharon) Johnson, Suamico, Wisc., and Paul (Marian) Johnson, Florence, Wisc.; one daughter, Elizabeth Johnson, Fort Collins, Colo.; one sister, Marilyn (Frank) Rassmann, Greensburg, Penn.; three grandchildren, Nicholas, Tanner, and Peyton; one niece and two nephews.

In addition to his parents, Leigh was preceded in death by one grandson, Nathan Johnson; and former wife and mother of his children, Mary Noeske.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 2, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence, Wisc. The service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Doug Johnson will officiate. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery in the spring.
