Hermansville- LaVergne A. Machalk, 96, of Hermansville, died Sunday, August 1, 2021, at Pinecrest Medical Facility in Powers, Mich. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Steve Machalk.

LaVergne was born on October 4, 1924, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Frank and Cecilia Jezewski. She moved to Hermansville in 1926 and spent her entire life residing there.

LaVergne graduated from Hermansville High School, class of 1943, and two months later married the love of her life, Steve Machalk, at Saint Mary's Church in Hermansville. LaVergne worked all her life in Hermansville; she ran her own Beauty Parlor for over 35 years, working well into her seventy's. She was a wonderful Wife, Mother, and cook. LaVergne was a friend to all she came into contact with. She was very personable and loving to all she met and will be sadly missed by all who knew her as well as those who met her in passing.

She is survived by her only son, her boy Kim Machalk and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

LaVergne was the last living link to her five sisters and two brothers, as well as her husband’s five brothers and two sisters. That link of personally knowing those individuals growing up is now gone.

A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Meyer Township Cemetery.
