Spread Eagle-Kenneth Warren Sovey, passed away July 29, 2018, at the UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas after a ten-year courageous battle with Familial Interstital Lung Disease, which included a double lung transplant seven years ago and recent open heart surgery. Ken was 56 years old, born on July 8, 1962. His parents are Terry Ann and Kenneth J. Sovey of Spread Eagle, Wis. and Lakeway, Texas. His partner of the last thirty years is Neil Meshorer of Lakeway, Texas. Together they had a wonderful life built on love, laughter, trust and mutual respect. Ken fought the good fight with Jesus Christ, his family and an excellent medical team at his side to the very end. Besides his parents and Neil, he leaves behind brothers, Greg (Buck) and Brian also of Lakeway, Texas. Ken spent every summer at Spread Eagle, it definitely was his favorite place to be. He never complained and kept his wonderful sense of humor to the very end. Ken was always the life of the party and kept everyone entertained and laughing. His last words were “I feel surrounded by peace and love”.
Ken graduated from UCLA in Economics in 1986 and went on to receive his CPCU Certification in Insurance. He was employed by Farmer’s in Specialty Insurance Claims. He loved animals and had as great companions two rescue cats: Tigger and Rudolph and a dog named Tipper. Ken also had a love for classic cars.
He will be sorely missed by his Aunts and Uncles: Great-Uncle Tony Amato, Great-Aunt Sonia (Bob) Marshall; Robert (Jean) Sovey, Bobbie (Joe) Caccamisi, Chuck (Cindy) Hjerpe, Sue (Ed) Langford and Steve (Karen) Hjerpe. Ken also leaves behind wonderful cousins of all ages.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Clarence and Jane Sovey of Escanaba, Warren and Barbara Hjerpe of Spread Eagle and Bartlett, Tennessee. Also, his two loving aunts, Marge Amato and Donna Henderson.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 10, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich. A Memorial Service will take place Friday, 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Michael March from First Presbyterian Church will officiate the service.
