Obituary for Kathleen "Kay" Rochon (Maynard)

Kathleen “Kay” Rochon, 97, lifelong resident of Iron Mountain, Mich., until 2017, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2020, in Fairfax, VA.


Kay was born in Iron Mountain on October 13, 1922 to the late John and Laura (Trethewey) Maynard. Her parents emigrated to the United States from Cornwall, England in 1905. She was the youngest of eight children. Kay graduated from Iron Mountain High School with the class of 1940. She married J. Robert “Bob” Rochon on May 21,1945. He preceded her in death on August 28, 2012.

Kay was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Iron Mountain. She was a member of the Friends of the Menominee Range Historical Museum and served on the Museum Board. Kay was also a volunteer at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital for 37 years and was a longstanding member of the Hospital League. She was a 50-year member of the Iron Mountain Women’s Club.


Kay is survived by three children; daughters, Mary (Carl) Plath of Burke, VA, Jane (Pat) Hyla of Lake Zurich, IL and one son, Tom (Debby) Rochon of Naples, FL.; along with 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.


In addition to her parents, and her husband, Bob, Kay was preceded in death by three brothers, John, William and Henry Maynard; and four sisters, Margaret Maynard, Frances Quick, Dorothy Clemo and Louise Roberts.


A graveside service will take place on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain. Rev. Candy Buchcuski will officiate.
