Obituary for Julie Ann Skowronek (Hansen)
Niagara- Julie A. Skowronek, 56, of Niagara, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, March 28, 2024, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
She was born on March 25, 1968, in Norway, Mich. The daughter of the late Marvin and Joyce (Lake) Hansen, Julie grew up in Norway and graduated from Norway High School, class of 1986. She married James Skowronek on May 27, 1989, at St. Mary Church in Norway. Following marriage, they resided in Niagara, where they raised two children.
For work, Julie was employed as a housekeeper at Marshfield Medical Center, formerly Dickinson County Hospital, from 1988 until 2023. She enjoyed the daily interactions with both staff and patients alike. Outside of work, she enjoyed crafting, quilting, playing cards, going for walks, and floating down the river in the summer months. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her children and granddaughter.
Anyone who knew Julie knew that she had a heart of gold and was always full of life and full of energy. She was never one to sit still for long. She was always cheering on her nieces at sporting events or in the kitchen baking cookies to give to someone. She would always lend a helping hand whenever and wherever she could. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she loved giving gifts to others. It meant the world to her to see someone’s face light up when they received a gift from her.
Survivors include her loving husband of 34 years, James Skowronek; one son, James M. Skowronek, Green Bay, Wisc.; one daughter, Jamie (James) Lorrigan, Green Bay, Wisc.; one granddaughter, Adaline Joy Lorrigan; four brothers, Marvin (Holly) Hansen, Kingsford, Mich., Michael (Maryann) Hansen, Quinnesec, Mich., Gary (Mary Lynn) Hansen, Niagara, Wisc., and Scott (Cindy) Hansen, Niagara, Wisc.; numerous nieces and nephews; and many near and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Julie was preceded in death by one brother, Mark Hansen, and a special friend, Inez Harvath.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 5, 2024, at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Visitation will follow from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Quinnesec Cemetery, Quinnesec, Mich. at a later date.
