Obituary for Jane F Miller (Fay)

Kingsford-Jane Fay Miller, age 99, of Kingsford, Mich., passed away Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Evergreen Assisted Living, Kingsford, Mich.

She was born June 21, 1920, on a farm near Nevada, Iowa, daughter of the late Wylie W. and Marguerite N. Fay. Upon graduating from Nevada High School, she attended Iowa State College and graduated in 1942 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Professional Home Economics. Jane was a member of Pi Beta Phi. While in college she also studied voice and was always active in and supportive of music. Following graduation, Jane, served as assistant director or personnel at Iowa State, acting as director of social activities. She served in the same capacity at the Junior College of Connecticut in Bridgeport, Conn. In 1948 Jane worked as home economist for the home laundry division of General Electric Co. in Chicago
.
In 1949 she married Roy E. “Buck” Miller, Jr., who preceded her in death in 2004. They were married in Nevada, and then lived in Punxsutawney, Penn. for four years, after which they moved to Crystal Falls, Mich. In 1957 Jane and Buck moved to Iron Mountain where Buck started a business, Miller Products and Supply. Jane became a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood in 1940 and participated in the organization of Chapter W in Pennsylvania and Chapter CX in Iron Mountain.

Jane was a former member of the Pine Grove Country Club and the Friday Study Club. She belonged to Matinee Musicale and to a bridge club for many years. Jane belonged to the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Women’s Club and the Chippewa Club. She was a former member of the First Lutheran Church, and at the time of her passing was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was an Elder.

Jane is survived by a daughter, Marguerite J. (Robert Lees) Miller, Washington D.C.; two grandchildren, Andrew R. and Kirstjana L. Miller of Calgary, Canada; daughter-in-law, Maya Miller; step-granddaughter, Catherine (Julio Noguez) Miller; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Roy, Jane was preceded in death by her son A. David; and her only brother, Robert W. Fay.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 25, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Kingsford, Mich. A memorial service will be Friday, 11:00 a.m. at the church. Rev. Michael March will officiate.
