Obituary for Henry Darrow Lawry

Crystal Falls – Henry Darrow Lawry, 74, passed away Friday, November 18, 2022, at his home in Crystal Falls, Michigan.

Henry (aka Hank and Heikki) was born November 29, 1947, in Crystal Falls, Mich., the middle child and only son to the late Robert M and Opal (Lester) Lawry. After graduating from Forest Park High School, he served his country in the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Shangri-La. In 1971, he married Mary (Ordzywolska) Lawry and moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin, where they lived until their divorce in 1988. In 1989, Henry married Marlene (Hendricksen) Lawry.

As a young man, Henry worked with his father as a professional painter. After moving to Green Bay, he worked for many years with the Green Bay and Western Railroad before moving on to Nicolet Paper in DePere and finally Green Bay Dressed Beef. After they retired, Hank and Marlene moved back to his family home in Crystal Falls.

Hank enjoyed spending time with family and friends - especially hunting, fishing (and catching seaweed), walking in the woods, lighting off fireworks while wearing flip-flops, and grilling tasty meals. In all of his homes, a long line of dogs and cats provided joy and companionship.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Jeannie Lawry and Connie Tolzman, brother-in-law Arthur Tolzman, and his wife Marlene.

Henry is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth (Joel) Volm and Sara Lawry (Chell); stepdaughters Terri (Rick) Huettl and Cindy Hendricksen; nephews Darrel Tolzman and Jay (Molly) Tolzman; grandchildren Kayla Lewis, Nicholas Volm, Agnieszka Volm, Samantha Chell, and Sonja Chell; and great-grandchildren Abbigail and Matthew.

In accordance with Henry’s wishes, private family services will be held.
