Obituary for Gregory Lee "Greg" Maas

Iron Mountain- Gregory Lee “Greg” Maas, 65, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022, at the Norway Speedway, Norway, Mich.

He was born May 26, 1957, in Iron Mountain, son of the late William “Bill” and Margaret “Joyce” (Oliver) Maas. Greg grew up in Kingsford and was a lifelong resident of the area. He married Lori Wright on December 31, 1988, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Iron Mountain. Greg worked for the Local Labors Union #1329, Iron Mountain, for 25 years before retiring. He then took a position at the Iron Mountain Daily News, where he had been working. Greg was an avid NASCAR and racing fan. He had racing in his blood and was an active volunteer at the Norway Speedway for 34 years, where he served as a track official, flagman, as well as various other duties. Greg looked forward to the Friday night races and would ask many to join him at the track. He also enjoyed the Denver Broncos, golfing, bowling, hunting, and fishing.

Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years, Lori Maas, Iron Mountain, Mich.; two sons, Alan Scott, Menominee, Mich., and David (Kristen) Scott, Reeds City, Mich.; two daughters, Monica (Ryan) Lemerond, Wakefield, Mich., and Shanon (Joshua) Lake, DePere, Wis.; one sister, Glenda Walters, Florida; one brother, William “Bill” Maas, Kingsford, Mich.; six grandchildren, Reilly, Kaitlyn, Andrew, Isabella, Aiden, and Sebastian; many nieces and nephews; in-law, Michael (Penny) Maraccini, Merriman, Mich., Beverly Lindberg, Ishpeming, Mich., and Bob Waldbillig, Aurora, Wis.; as well as his beloved dogs.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 2, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich. A celebration of Greg’s life will be Thursday, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Irene White will officiate services.

A memorial will be established in Greg’s name.
