Obituary for George D. Witkowski

Niagara- George D. Witkowski, 80, of Niagara, Wis., passed away Friday, July 22, 2022, at ProMedica Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Kingsford, Mich.

He was born August 19, 1941, in Milwaukee, Wis., son of the late George R. and Caroline (Mraz) Witkowski. George’s father passed away at a young age so George helped his mother run the Lilly Lake Resort in Dunbar, Wis., and later Caroline’s Tavern in Pembine for many years. He graduated from Pembine High School, class of 1959. On November 25, 1973, George married June Holmquist Bloch at the Riverside United Methodist Church in Niagara. They resided in Niagara where George worked for many years at the Niagara Paper Mill, retiring in 1998.

George enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Hiram D Fischer Post #222 Masonic Lodge, Florence, where he served for 59 years. George was awarded the Service Medal by the Masonic Lodge for 50 years on June 29, 2013.

Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, June Witkowski; two sons, Michael (Fran) Bloch, Niagara, Wis., and Stephen (Alicia) Bloch, Houston, Tex.; three daughters, Ann Hicks, Niagara, Wis., Kathleen Knudsen, Kingsford, Mich., and Patricia Bloch, Denmark, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeremy, Nicole, Christopher, Trevor, Derek, and Alyssa; ten great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Karon Witkowski, Westfield, Wisconsin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by one brother, Myron “Mike” Witkowski.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 19, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home-Niagara Chapel, Niagara, Wis. The Hiram D Fischer Post #222 and the Iron Mountain/Kingsford Masonic Lodge #388 will conduct memorial services, Friday, 1:50 p.m. at the funeral home. A celebration of George’s life will be held Friday, 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Pastor Debra Spira will officiate. Burial will be in Pembine Cemetery, Pembine, Wis.
