Obituary for Gene R. Pinheiro

Iron Mountain – Gene R. Pinheiro, 76, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, April 5, 2022.

He was born on March 24, 1946, to the late Joseph and Grace (Edwards) Pinheiro in New Bedford, Mass. He grew up in New Bedford and graduated from New Bedford High School.

Gene was a great man, who always spent time with his wife, children, and family going on cookouts and days on the beach. He loved fishing, hunting, motorcycles, cars, target practice, lifting weights, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and enjoyed his job as a janitor in the school system. He loved to drink and have a good time with family and friends. He was a very liked man everywhere he went and he would talk to each and every person that he met. Gene loved to tell a joke or share a laugh, but he was considered by his children a man with strict discipline which helped his children to grow with love for each other.

Having met the love of his life, Brenda Szela, when she was fifteen and his sixteen, they spent many happy years together raising a family. Gene and Brenda expressed their love for each other at a marriage ceremony on August 28, 1988, in New Bedford, Mass. They were longtime residents of New Bedford, Mass., and years later their love of the country and outdoors brought them to Iron Mountain, Mich.

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Brenda (Szela) Pinheiro; sons, Steven (Josephine) Hebert, Ralph Hebert, and Walter (Lisa Caban) Hebert; daughters, Tammy Pinheiro; Karen (Lou Daugherty) Hebert, and Brenda (Dennis) Schuirmann; step-daughter, Robin McHale; daughter-in-law, Lindsey-Rae Hebert; brother, Danny (Toni) Pinheiro; sister, Barbara Demaranville; two Godchildren; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his son, Geno Hebert; brothers, Bobby Pinheiro, Lenny Pinheiro, Joey Pinheiro, and Stephen Pinheiro; and his daughter-in-law, Lorri Hebert.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 30, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich. A celebration of Gene’s life will follow at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Kevin Sullivan will officiate.
