Obituary for Gary R. Stroud

Crystal Falls- Gary R. Stroud, 71, of Amasa, Mich., passed away Monday, July 13, 2020 at his home on Ned Lake.

He was born January 6, 1949, in Sagola, Mich., son of the late Alfred and Helen (Beyers) Stroud. Gary grew up in Sagola and graduated from Channing High School. Following graduation, he proudly served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War, until his honorable discharge. Gary worked as an Ironworker for Local #783 and #8, as well as many other self-employed jobs and trades. He owned and operated the Horseshoe Bar in Amasa.

Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and flying his plane. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and taking trips with them out west. Gary wintered in Arizona and loved his camp.

Survivors include two sons, Nick (Michelle) Stroud, Cornell, Mich., and Scott Stroud, Crystal Falls, Mich.; two brothers, Rod and Larry Stroud; one sister, Sharry Sandberg-Stroud; two grandsons, Dylon and Carter; several nieces and nephews; adopted daughter, Lisa Thoune; and by his grand dog, Clint.

In addition to his parents, Alfred and Helen, Gary was preceded in death by one son, Chad; and three brothers, Harold, Don and Wayne Stroud.

A party to pay respects to Gary will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. until close at the Horseshoe Bar, 102 West Pine St.,Amasa, Mich.
