Obituary for Gary L. Ross

Sagola- Gary Ross, 75, of Sagola, Mich., passed away Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center, Iron Mountain, Mich.

He was born December 24, 1946, in Stambaugh, Mich., son of the late Edward and Helia (Korkiamaki) Ross. Gary grew up in Crystal Falls, Mich., and graduated from Crystal Falls High School, class of 1965. Gary took honor in his service to our country, serving in the United States Army in Vietnam. Upon returning home from his military service, he worked at Fort Howard Paper Company in Green Bay, Wis. He returned with his family to Crystal Falls in 1979 before moving to Sagola in 1980. Gary married Mary Bruce on March 22, 1969, and later worked as a maintenance planner for International Paper, Quinnesec, Mich.

Gary was a member of the Crystal Falls VFW, the Lions Club, and a board member of the Sagola Sportsman Club in Channing. He enjoyed many hobbies, including fishing, driving through the woods in the side by side, woodworking, and crossword puzzles, as well as being an avid hunter. Gary’s favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren, cutting the lawn, sitting on the porch while grilling a meal and enjoying the quiet of nature in the backyard, and having conversations with family and friends.

Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Ross; three daughters, Renae Ross, Jennifer Murray, and Amanda Ross; grandchildren, Tristin Colenso, Annalise Colenso, Ty Colenso, Aiden Colenso, Megan Murray, Mary Murray, Mason Murray, Gary Murray, Seth Murray, Noah Murray, Jakob Ross, Hannah Oleson, Alexa Oleson, Nicole Oleson and Chase Harteau; one brother Ray (Janet) Ross; one sister, Marlene (Jim) Farragh; sisters-in-law, Pearl Ross and Mary Ross; and by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by two daughters, Lisa and Angela Ross, and three brothers, Allen, Wayne, and Arnold Ross.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church, Sagola, Mich. Funeral services will be Wednesday, 11:00 a.m., at the church. Pastor Ryan Flunker will officiate. The American Legion Post #50, Iron Mountain, Mich., will accord military honors at the church.
