Obituary for Forrest J. Erkkila

Kingsford- Forrest J. Erkkila, 68, of Kingsford, Mich., passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at his home.

He was born November 9, 1954, in Iron Mountain, Mich., son of the late Lee and Marjorie (Piper) Erkkila. Forrest grew up all over the Midwest and graduated from Iron Mountain High School. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Northern Michigan University.

Forrest married Mary Coombe on August 18, 2007. His career included owning a grocery store, Standard Printing, and working in the paper industry.

Forrest was a local Car Club and Carving Club member and coached youth hockey and Pop Warner Football. He loved spending time with his grandchildren above anything else. Forrest enjoyed carving, ships, airplanes, fishing, hunting, listening to classic rock music, and watching sports on tv, especially college football and SNL. He also enjoyed going to camp, watching the Detroit Redwings and the Green Bay Packer.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Erkkila, Kingsford, Mich.; one son, Brandon (Katherine) Erkkila, Appleton, Wisc.; one daughter, Jennifer Erkkila, DePere, Wisc.; three step-children, Stacey (Danny) Juranek, Bradley Senger, and Amy (Tim) Nixon; four grandchildren, Zander Zaroff, Leo Schabow, Finnley Erkkila and Oliver Erkkila; and by one sister-in-law, Joann Erkkila, Norway, Mich.

In addition to his parents, Forrest was preceded in death by one brother, Lee “Skip” Erkkila.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich. A celebration of life will follow at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain, Mich.

The family has chosen the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich., to honor Forrest’s legacy of life.
