Obituary for Ellsworth J. "El" Semler
Iron Mountain-Ellsworth “El” J. Semler, age 90, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away Monday, March 4, 2019, at Evergreen Assisted Living, Kingsford, Mich.
He was born November 21, 1928, in Crosby, Minn., son of the late Leon and Christine (Norman) Semler. Ellsworth grew up and attended school in Crosby, Minn. He proudly served over 20 years in the United States Army, National Guard, and Reserves. On January 26, 1949, in Aitkin, Minn. El was united in marriage to Rodora Baker. They resided in Crosby, Minn. until 1963, at which time they moved to Iron Mountain. Rodora preceded him in death on April 27, 2012.
El worked for Hanna Mining Company until he retired. He then worked for the Iron Mountain School System as a custodian. El was a long-time member of Maranatha Assembly of God Church, Kingsford, the Uren Cooper Johnson American Legion Post #50, Iron Mountain and the Northwoods Philatelic Society (Stamp Club).
Survivors include three sons, John (Janet) Semler, Wellston, Mich., Robert Semler, Kingsford, Mich., and Daniel (Linda) Semler, Lafayette, Colo.; one daughter, Debra (Larry) Strauss, Vulcan, Mich.; two brothers Delmer Semler, Ariz., Dwight (Mabel) Semler, Minn.; one sister Alice, St. Croix, Wash.; one brother-in-law Wally Ruedy, Minn. seven grandchildren, Jim (Christina), Jamie, Teena (John), Tawnya , Deanna (Ryan), Melissa, and Brent (Tara); seventeen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews
In addition to his parents and his wife, Rodora, El was preceded in death by three sisters Betty, Lucile, and Norma.
Visitation will be Friday, March 8, 2019, from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at Maranatha Assembly of God Church, Kingsford, Mich. Funeral services will be Friday, at 11:00 at the church Rev. David Wilton will officiate. Burial will be Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain. The Uren Cooper Johnson American Legion Post #50, Honor Guard, will accord military honors at graveside.
