Iron Mountain- Elizabeth A. Gignac, 90, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain, Mich.
She was born September 12, 1930, in London, England. Elizabeth grew up in England and received her Registered Nursing Certificate serving in the Nurses Corp of the Royal Air Force during WWII. She came to the United States in 1957, settling first in Dunbar, West Virginia. Her husband, Louis, served in the armed forces, and she traveled with him to many parts of the country. In 2003 Elizabeth moved to Niagara, Wis. Her first husband, Arthur Carl Lehmann Jr., preceded her in death, and she later married Louis Gignac, who also preceded her in death.
Elizabeth was an avid knitter, knitting many afghans and sweaters, and all of the dogs in the neighborhood sported her sweaters. She was a Civil Air Patrol volunteer starting in 1974, and she elevated all the way to Lt. Colonel before retiring.
Elizabeth is survived by one son, Arthur Lehmann, Niagara, Wis.; one daughter, Christine (Sam) Samantini, Crowley, Louisiana; one brother, Terrance Higgins, Canada; three grandchildren, Kallie, Alisha, and Trisha; eight great-grandchildren.
In accordance with Elizabeth’s wishes, private family services will be held.
