Kingsford-Donald E. Edens, age 93, of Kingsford, Mich., passed away Monday, November 19, 2018, at Evergreen Assisted Living, Kingsford, Mich.
He was born May 1, 1925, in Granton, Wis., son of the late William and Violet (Fulwiler) Edens. The family moved to Kingsford in 1926 and later to Hardwood, Mich. Don attended school in Kingsford and Felch. He married Dorothy Marchetti on April 2, 1945, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Don started his working career at age 13 when he drove the milk truck in Foster City. He later worked for Superior Steel Systems, Hugh Shanks Builders, and over the past several years worked as a garage door technician which he took pride in. Don was an avid Kingsford Flivver fan and along with his wife, Dorothy, enjoyed many school activities including athletics, music and academics. The Breitung Township School presented Don and Dorothy with the first Flivver of the Year award. He was an active member of the American Martyrs Catholic Church, Kingsford where he served on the Parish Council and as an usher. Don also served on the Kingsford Housing Commission for over 20 years.
Don enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, snowmobiling, and especially going to camp with his family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of 73 years Dorothy Edens; two daughters, Mary (Donald) Lee and Sally Klingelhutz; two sons, Mark (Val) Edens and Bill (LuAnn) Edens; one daughter-in-law, Pam Edens; fourteen grandchildren, Steve (Tracey), Mark, Donald Lee Jr.(Mandy), Michael (Amanda), Sara (Brandon), Jessica (Ben), Paul (Brittany), Neil (Aubrey), Carl, Joe, Jake (Stephanie), Jeana, Amy, and Jenny (Matt); eleven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Darrel (Ann) Edens, Douglas (Connie) Edens and Delbert Edens; one sistesr-in-law, Joan Edens; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by one son, Donald M. “Donnie” Edens; one brother, Duane Edens; one sister, Dorothy Francke; and one son-in-law, Rick Klingelhutz.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 23, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Prayers will be recited Friday, 10:30 a.m. at the funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, 11:00 a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church, Kingsford, Mich. Rev. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
