Obituary for Donald M. "Butch" Christensen

Kingsford- Donald M. “Butch” Christensen, 85, of Kingsford, Mich., passed away Saturday, February 22, 2020, at Freeman Nursing Home, Kingsford, Mich.

He was born June 22, 1934, in Iron River, Mich., son of the late Morris Bernard and Sylvia (Komulainen) Christensen. Butch grew up in Kingsford, Mich. and was a graduate of Kingsford High School, class of 1952. He married Marianne Spencer on September 7, 1957 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Iron Mountain, Mich. Butch was employed by Standard Service Company, Iron Mountain for 25 years and D.A. McPherson Company, Crystal Falls, Mich. for 14 years, both as a salesman. He was a member of the Kiwanis Ski Club and Pine Grove Country Club over the years.

Butch was an avid ski jumper throughout his younger years and continued to hold his ski jumping connections with his friends, joining them weekly for coffee and memories. He looked forward to these visits. Butch also enjoyed golfing, going to camp, and especially loved the time spent with family.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Marianne; one son, Donald (Alex) Christensen, Homestead, Wis.; one daughter, Donna Christensen; one stepbrother, John Gasperich, East Kingsford, Mich.; two sisters, Linda Galeazzi, Sheboygan Falls, Wis., and Judy Schumacher, Fond du Lac, Wis.; and by two grandchildren, Mitchell Christensen and Paige Spencer; and one great-granddaughter, Lily Deanna Christensen .

In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by one daughter, Deanna Novara in 2001; and one sister, Joan Smits.
