Obituary for Cheryl Jane Saler (Dawson)

“And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.”

Cherished wife, mother, and “Nan,” Cheryl Saler passed away unexpectedly of COVID-related causes at her Niagara home on April 25, 2022.

Cheryl was born May 14, 1957, to John and Phyllis Dawson in St. Albans, England. Her family immigrated to the United States when she was a baby, and England always remained a second home at heart. Cheryl loved going back to visit.

Cheryl married Robert Saler on November 27, 1976, in Niagara, Wis. They were each inseparable for 45 years of marriage. They enjoyed new adventures moving across the country but settled back to their Wisconsin roots. She was Bob’s rock, and he hers. Their strong marriage and support for one another served as inspiration for their two daughters, Dana and Aja.

Grandchildren Hayden and Ashlyn Obenauer brought Cheryl so much joy. She loved being their number one fan and owned it proudly! She loved making crafts and shopping with her girls.

Cheryl also loved to garden and enjoyed nature. She and Bob received so many compliments on their elaborate and unique gardens. She was an amazing cook, showing her love in her meals. Her classic family dishes will be imitated for years to come but never replaced. She was a great loving mom to her fur and feather babies. Cooper, Abby, and Bruce will miss her cuddles.

Cheryl is survived by her husband Bob; daughters Dana (Chris) Obenauer and Aja (Mason) Morris; grandchildren Hayden and Ashlyn Obenauer; and mother Phyllis Dawson; four siblings and their spouses; and brother-in-law. She was the adoring aunt of several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Cheryl loved all of her family and friends very much.

She is preceded in death by her father John Dawson; mother-in-law and father-in-law Raymond and Jennie Saler; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Ken and Judy Smits; and sister-in-law Toni Catanzaro.

Cheryl's family wasn't ready for her to go, and she will be missed beyond words. Her immediate family will privately celebrate her life but invite you to share memories.
