Obituary for Charles R. "Charlie" Garbrecht Sr.

Charles R. Garbrecht, 61, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving family in Iron Mountain, MI.

He was born October 10, 1960, in Sault Ste Marie, Mich., son of the late Ronald Maurice and Reta (Hodges) Garbrecht. Charlie was a graduate of Kingsford High School, class of 1979.

Charlie worked for Bob Baldinelli thru Avis for 30 years running cars between the Ford Airport and the Body Shop. He was always restoring, repairing, or painting hot rods, the classics, and his favorite, the Corvette.
His specialization with fiberglass led to Charlie’s Ladder Repair. However, Charlie’s amazing talent led back to painting, including John Deere equipment for a calendar while at Northland Equipment/CMF, then later for Teamsters Local #329 building and painting their newly manufactured garbage trucks.

Charlie enjoyed spending time with his family telling stories from his younger days, watching sitcoms, and making everyone laugh. Charlie had a way of finding humor in almost every situation. Charlie’s grandkids were his pride and joy. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was always there with a shoulder to lean on, some advice, or even gas money.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and his children Charlie (Amber) Garbrecht Jr of Plover, Wis., Katey (Josh) Bedgood of Hermansville, Mich., Lindsey Garbrecht of Norway, Mich., Kayla (Ty) Conley, and Carissa (Trever) Steva of Iron Mountain, Mich., and Matthew (Alise) Robinson of Kingsford, Mich.; brother, Daniel (Kelly) Garbrecht of Kingsford, Mich.; sisters Rebecca (Terry) Meinolf of Iron Mountain, Mich., Debra (Joseph) Anderson of Norway, Mich., and Lori (Joe) Garbrecht of Iron Mountain, Mich.; brother-in-law, Eric (Andrea) LeQuia, Kingsford, Mich.; 11 grandchildren Brandon, Wyatt, Kylie, Myla, Kamden, Daija, Alivia, Tristin, Michael, Ronald, and Jackson; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his first wife, Karen Brow; special nephew Nate Miller; and dear friend Melissa Davidson.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Garbrecht Jr.; an aunt, Margaret ‘Teen’ Swailes; and special friend DaLana Conley.

In accordance with Charlie’s wishes, private family services will be held.
