Obituary for Carol Sue Fayas

Kingsford - Carol Sue Fayas, 70, of Kingsford, Mich., was received in heaven on Monday, August 28, 2023, while rehabbing at Freemans Nursing and Rehab, Kingsford, Mich.

Carol was born on October 30, 1952, in Monroe, Wisc., to the late Oliver and Wanda (Robichaux) Earleywine. She grew up in Brodhead, Wisc., where she worked hard on the family farm with her two sisters and brother and graduated from Brodhead High School, class of 1970. After graduation, she attended University of Wisconsin – Madison, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Correctional Administration, and Social Work.

She moved to Upper Michigan as a new bride and raised her three children in Sagola and Kingsford, Michigan. As a stay-at-home mother and homemaker while her children were young, she was committed to helping others; she and then-husband Dale Fayas opened their home and family to foster children for a number of years. Carol volunteered in her community helping to fundraise and establish a neighborhood playground prior to starting part-time work outside of the home as a successful Tupperware lady and rural route carrier for The Daily News.

In 1986 she accepted employment as a 911 dispatcher with the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office. Carol later transitioned into the jail as a Corrections Officer prior to becoming the first female Sargeant. With more than 20 years of service she retired in 2007 remembered to clients and colleagues for her integrity, honor, and quality of leadership.

Immediately following retirement, she transitioned to her most fulfilling and cherished role: full-time Grandma, showering grandsons 4-year-old Jordan, and newborn McCaleb with unconditional love. With the faith of a believer, the heart of a servant, the spirit of a mother, and the love of a grandma, she nurtured and supported her family fervently, serving as its strength and bedrock.

Carol celebrated her lifelong relationship with her Lord and Savior as a dedicated member of Maranatha Assembly of God Church in Kingsford where she served at various times as a youth group leader, in-home Bible study hostess, Sunday school teacher, and administrative volunteer. In the last decade of her life, Carol extended her service to others, volunteering with Maranatha Messengers food and clothing distribution center.

Carol is survived by her daughters, Stacy (Ted) Hommerding, and Dianah Fayas; son, Jason (Leah Peterson) Fayas; grandchildren, Jordan and McCaleb; sisters, Linda Grenawalt, and Karen (Jeff) Recob; brother, Dale (Teresa) Earleywine; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She is remembered for her faith and kindness, her commitment to family, her quality of character and her unceasing strength.

A Celebration of Carol’s Life will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Maranatha Assembly of God Church, Kingsford, Mich., with Reverend David Wilton officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests attendees bring photo(s) of Carol to share on bulletin boards displayed at the Celebration.
