Obituary for Calvin R. Krooks

Norway- Calvin R. Krooks, 80, of Norway, Mich., passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain, Mich., with his wife at his side.

He was born June 5, 1940, in Negaunee, Mich., son of the late Carl W. and Lillie (Johnson) Krooks. Calvin grew up in Norway and was a graduate of Norway High School. He proudly served in the United States Army, and after his honorable discharge, he returned to Norway. Calvin married Jean (Roberts) Strasburg on December 1, 1990, in Norway, and they resided in Upper Pine Creek. He worked for Perry Norway as a press operator for 42 ½ years before retiring in 2006.

Calvin, along with his wife, enjoyed woodworking, gardening, yard work, spending time with their family, and they had a great love for raising Teddy Bear Dogs and currently have five at home.

He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Jean; one son, Nicholas (Savannah) Patron, Lena, Wis.; one daughter, Angela (Matthew Shoemaker) Howard, Norway, Mich.; two grandchildren, Isaiah and Avary; one sister-in-law, Sharon (Richard) Groeschl, Malone, Wis.; two brothers-in-law, Lloyd Root, Milwaukee, Wis. and David Heidtke, Norway, Mich.; special friends, Pastor Kevin and Sandy Sullivan, and Keith Kaddy.

In addition to his parents, Calvin was preceded in death by one brother, Carl “Bud” Krooks, and three sisters, Margaret Gustafson, Leona Heidtke, and Kathleen “Kay” Root.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 7, 2020, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich. A celebration of Calvin’s life will be held Saturday, 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Pastor Kevin Sullivan will officiate. Burial will take place on Monday, November 9, 2020, 10:00 a.m. at Norway Twp. Cemetery, Norway, Mich. The Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post #50, Iron Mountain, will accord military honors at graveside.
