Obituary for Barbara E Liebau (Canavera)

Jefferson, Wisconsin – Barbara E Liebau, (Canavera) 86, of Jefferson, Wisc., passed away peacefully with family on Sunday, December 18, 2022, at Sunset Ridge Memory Care in Jefferson, Wisc.

Barbara was born on September 12, 1936, in Niagara, Wisc., to the late Joseph and Elaine (Watt) Canavera.

Barbara grew up in the Niagara area and graduated from Niagara High School, class of 1954. After graduation, Barbara worked at Kimberly Clark in Niagara for many years. She married Gary Liebau on October 24, 1959, in Niagara at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Following their marriage, they resided in West Bend, Wisc., Chilton, Wisc., and Niagara, Wisc. and Jefferson, Wisc. Barbara and Gary were blessed with 5 children. While in Chilton, Barbara owned “Chilton Flowers and Gifts,” both a dairy farm and a hobby farm, as well as working as a medical receptionist in Chilton and the Fox Valley. She enjoyed reading, gardening, canning, baking, and cooking. She especially enjoyed her time with family and friends.

She is survived by her sons, Joseph Liebau and James Liebau; daughters, Mary Liebau and Susan (Timothy) Whitstone; brothers, Father Larry Canavera and Clifford Canavera; five grandchildren, Joey, Tony, Fancie, Gareth, and Lily; two great-grandchildren, Ruby and Jack; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years on December 9, 2020, and one daughter Catherine Liebau.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Jacobs Funeral Home-Niagara Chapel, Niagara, Wisc. Prayers will be recited at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Niagara, Wisc., with Father Mark McQuesten officiating at 11:00 a. m. Burial will be in the Niagara Cemetery, and a luncheon to follow at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
