Obituary for Alvin G. Goman

Iron Mountain– Alvin G. Goman, 75, of Florence, Wisc., passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at his home.

He was born November 3, 1943, in Plainfield, Wisc., to the late Fred and Clara (Pomering) Goman. Alvin grew up in Plainfield and graduated from Tri-County High School class of 1961.
He married Mary Hetke in 1969 and they had four children. Alvin later married Kathleen Hendzel in Florence, Wisc. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and the National Guard for a total of 31 years. Alvin retired from the US Forest Service as a Forester at the age of 55 but continued to serve in the National Guard, retiring at the age of 60. After retirement, he enjoyed volunteering his time for Habitat for Humanity.

Alvin was always the first guy to help a friend or neighbor. He had a passion for working on his farm and enjoyed time spent with family as well as doing word puzzles, checkers, exercising, and playing cards.

Alvin is survived by his wife Kathleen (Hendzel) Goman; four children Pamela Goman, Green Bay, Wisc. Amanda (Troy) Pflugradt, Green Bay, Wisc., Theodore (Stacy) Goman, Manitowoc, Wisc., and Thomas Goman, Green Bay, Wisc.; three stepchildren Stacie Tickner (Chris Bossert), Tracie (Derek) Mueller, Jessie (Carmen) Tank; one sister Ann (LaVerne) Challoner, Plainfield, Wisc.; seven grandchildren Brianna Schuirmann, Cameron Goman, Caden Pflugradt, Gage Pflugradt, Chase Pflugradt, Bryce Goman, and Baylee Goman; eight step-grandchildren Tierna (Terry) Vanderheyden, Baillie (Miguel) Vanderheyden, Dillan (Izzy) Vanderheyden, Prestin (Nikki) Vanderheyden, Mackenzie Jo Vanderheyden, Alexander Mueller, Katarina Mueller, and Trevor Tank; three step-great-grandchildren Aniya, Faith and Emilia Vanderheyden; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine (Joe) Hendzel.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 13, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich. Prayers will be recited Sunday, 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Seiya Asanuma will officiate. The American Legion Meyers-Youngell Post #211, Florence will accord military honors at the funeral home.

A memorial will be established in Alvin’s memory.
