Obituary for Allen J Waite

Florence- Allen J. Waite, 84, of Florence, Wis., passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson, Iron Mountain, Mich.

He was born November 16, 1937, in Stambaugh, Mich., son of the late Raymond and Celia (Rachwal) Waite. Allen grew up in Florence and was a graduate of Florence High School, class of 1956. After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Navy from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1958.

He married MaryJane Sundberg in 1957 and together they raised their three children.

Allen owned and operated the Chatterbox in Florence from 1963 until 1977. Afterward, he owned and operated Allen Dock which later became American Dock. Before retirement, he owned and operated Headquarters Bar. He was known for growing and selling Christmas Trees since 1993.

Allen began driving Model A’s at the age of fourteen and was the first trash collector in Florence in his Model A. His passion for Model A’s continued throughout his life. He loved fly fishing and playing the party fiddle.

Survivors include one daughter, Tracy (Jeff) Voegtline; two sons, Scott (Chip) Waite and Jeff Waite; four grandchildren, Michael Voegtline, Dustin Voegtline, Jackie Rae Nichols, and Joshua Waite; three great-grandchildren, Brandi Rae Nichols, Gannon Voegtline and Jocelyn Voegtline; first wife, MaryJane (Sundberg) Vyvyan; second wife, Judy Waite; and three step-daughters, Penny Booth, Pam Leffler (Terry); and Jackie Dallagrana (Brent).

In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by one sister, June Rochon.

A celebration of Allen’s life will be at 1 p.m., on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Evergreen Cemetery, Crystal Falls, Mich., with the VFW Post #2891 conducting Military Honors.

The family will host a luncheon at Allen's home on First Crossing Road following the service at the cemetery.
