Obituary for Alcid DeWayne Mattson

Foster City – Alcid D. Mattson, 72, of Foster City, Mich., passed away Saturday, November 9, 2019, at his home following complications from cancer.

He was born on September 5, 1947, in Iron Mountain, Mich. son of the late William “Bill” and Lillian (Dixon) Mattson. Alcid grew up in Felch, Mich. and graduated from Felch High School. He married Anita (Beauchamp) on September 25, 1971, in Foster City. He worked in the trucking and mechanical business all of his life. Out of High School, Alcid first worked for Champion, Inc. where he drove cement truck and also drove all over the country. He then went to work for the Groveland Mine where he drove Euclid “Yukes” trucks and was a mechanic until it’s closing. Alcid along with his wife Anita owned and operated the Mill Town Inn, Foster City from 1996 until they retired in 2013. The past ten years, he worked for a wonderful boss and friend, Steve Zahn at Superior Specialized Carriers. During the last seven years he had the opportunity to work with his wife and best friend of 48 years by his side. Al referred to the last ten years as his dream job as it brought them to most every state in the Country.

Alcid volunteered for the Nordic Ambulance Service as an EMT and the Felch Fire Department where he served as Fire Chief for many years. He was a lifelong mechanic, jack of all trades, enjoyed hunting, fishing, travelling, and especially the time he spent with his two grandsons, Jacob and Jason Rehn and his many nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Anita; one daughter Nicole Rae (Bruce) Rehn, Norway, Mich.; one brother John (Kathy) Mattson, Iron Mountain, Mich.; one sister Lynn Olson, Lower Michigan; two grandchildren Jacob and Jason Rehn; numerous special nieces and nephews; three brothers-in-law Mick (Barbara) Beauchamp, Hardwood, Mich.; Tim (Jody) Beauchamp, Hardwood, Mich.; and Todd (Heather) Beauchamp, Escanaba, Mich.; six sisters-in-law April (Pete) Wonders, Iron Mountain, Mich.; Nancy (Jim) Urbany, Iron Mountain, Mich.; Diane Parolini, Hamilton Lakes, Mich.; Terri (Terry) Lindeman, Iron Mountain, Mich., Wanda Beauchamp, Hardwood, Mich.; Traci (Kevin) Johnson, Hardwood, Mich.; many special nieces and nephews; also many loving cousins and friends; and his best longtime friends Steve and Bonnie Dennocenzo, Hardwood, Mich.

In addition to his parents and son Jerry Mattson, Alcid was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Leslie and Janet (Cory) Beauchamp.

In accordance with Alcid’s wishes private family services will be held.

We are just heartbroken . To send you our sympathies just isn't enough . You will always be in our hearts and prayers Anita . What we wouldn't do to be able to sit around a fire with you two and just listen to Al spin his stories . You two created memories for us that will be cherished forever .
