Obituary for Robert L. Hedmark

Robert L. Hedmark, 87, of Fence, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015, at the Oscar G. Johnson Veterans Medical Center, Iron Mountain.

He was born November 28, 1927, in Fence, son of the late Fred and Stephanie (Lindenberg) Hedmark.

Robert was a lifelong resident of Fence. He served in the U.S. Army from late 1945, as a Military Police Officer, in occupied Japan. After being honorably discharged from the service, he spent most of his life as a logger and farmer in western Fence Township. Robert married Rita Peters on August 5, 1950; she preceded him in death in May 2000. Together, they raised a son and daughter, and cared for 44 foster children over a period of several years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing when time allowed.

He is survived by his dear friend, Marian Feider, Glendale, Wis.; one son, Kenneth (Catherine) Hedmark, Kerrick, Minn.; one daughter, Kathleen Hedmark, Fence; six grandchildren, Rochelle Spencer, Green Bay, Wis., Robin Spencer, Avery Spencer Jr., and Chad Spencer, all of Ft. Collins, Colo., David Hedmark, Kerrick and Nicole Hedmark, Boca Raton, Fla.; nine great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert will be fondly remembered by his foster children, including Gale (Pat) Hall, Fence, Debra (Pete) Sochs and Mary (Pete) Worley, both of Manitowoc, Wis., Lloyd Pete, Laona, Wis., Donald Pete, Long Lake, Wis. Laura Ann Pete-Ricker of Wolf Point, Mont., as well as Judy Miller and Beth Mishler of Superior, Wis.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Rita, he was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy; three brothers, Edward (Linnea) Hedmark, Milan (Vita) Hedmark, and Floyd (“Tootie”) Hedmark; one sister, Florence (Darwin) Sternhagen; one great-granddaughter, Kala Majors and one foster son, Brian Pete.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 17, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Fence Bible Church, Fence. Funeral Services will be Monday, 11:00 a.m. at the church. Pastor Tim Smith will officiate. The American Legion Martell-Musiaw Post No. 325 of Goodman will conduct Military Honors, Monday, 10:45 a.m. at the church.
