Troy Daniel Mikula, age 30, of Crystal Falls, Mich. passed away Sunday, June 15, 2008, in a kayaking accident in Florence County, Wisc.

He was born July 1, 1977 in Grand Rapids, Mich., son of Lawrence and Sharon (London) Mikula. Troy grew up in Walker, Mich. and attended Kenowa Hills High School graduating in 1995. He went on to attend Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Mich. and received a Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering degree in May of 2000. Troy married Kristen VanderLinde on May 29, 2004 at Norway Mountain in Norway, Mich.

Troy was employed as project engineer in commercial mining for Oldenburg Group, Inc. in Iron River, Mich. and was a member of the Engineer’s Club of Iron County. Troy enjoyed many hobbies which included; snowboarding, kayaking, hiking, snowmobiling, riding his motorcycle, cross country skiing and skateboarding. He was a foster parent to Abby.

He is survived by his wife, Kristen; mother, Sharon of Walker, Mich.; a brother, Keith of Walker; father and mother in law, David and Lynn VanderLinde, Black River, Mich.; a brother in law, Matt (Kandice) Wiesen, Rockland, Mich.; nephews, Ryan, Joshua, and Matthew Wiesen; paternal grandmother, Helen Mikula of Walker, and maternal grandmother, Rosella London of Comstock Park, Mich.

Troy was preceded by his father, Lawrence; a sister, Margaret Wiesen; and grandfathers, Lawrence Mikula Sr. and Winfield G. London.

Funeral Information

Visitation will be Thursday, June 19, 2008 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jacobs –Plowe Funeral Home in Crystal Falls. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 20, at 11:00 a.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church in Crystal Falls. Pastor Stephen Rhoades will officiate.
