Obituary for Carol M. Powell (Olson)

Iron Mountain - Carol M. Powell, 89, of Breitung Twp., Mich., formerly of Goodman, Wis., passed away Monday, October 9, 2017, at Evergreen Heights Assisted Living, Kingsford, Mich.

She was born May 20, 1928, in Norwood, Wis., daughter of the late Earl and Ethel (Nonnenmacher) Olson. Carol graduated from Antigo High School, Class of 1946. She married Kenneth Powell on June 30, 1950, in Antigo, Wis. He preceded her in death on December 25, 2016. They lived in Elton, Wis. before moving to Goodman, Wis. in October of 1958. Carol was a member of Union Protestant Church in Goodman, a founding member of the Goodman-Armstrong Creek Rescue Squad, and a member of the Martell-Musiaw American Legion Post #325 Auxiliary for over 50 years. She worked for Goodman Veneer Mill from 1968 until 1993.

She is survived by one daughter, Kay (Glen) Meyer, Fence, Wis.; one son, Bruce (Sharon) Powell, Bradley, Ill.; six grandchildren, Nikki, Danielle, Kelli, Cody, Grant and Cole; four great-grandchildren, Millie, Callie, Mick and Xavier; three sisters-in-law, Connie Powell, Donna LaPage and Carol O’Meara, all of Antigo, Wis.; two brothers-in-law, Lionel Robinson, Bolingbrook, Ill. and Ralph Kelpsas; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Kenneth, Carol was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd (Lola) Olson and Keith Olson; one grandson, Justin Powell; six brothers-in-law, Jim (Norma) Powell, Clifford Powell, Thomas Powell, George O’Meara, Mike LaPage and Gary Powell; and by two sisters-in-law, Dulcia Robinson and Marty Kelpsas.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 13, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Union Protestant Church, Goodman, Wis. Funeral services will be held Friday at, 12:00 p.m. at the church. Rev. Henry Yoap will officiate. Burial will be in Goodman Cemetery, Goodman, Wis.

Memorials can be made to the Goodman-Armstrong Creek Rescue Squad in Carol’s memory.
