L’Anse-Franklin E. Sonderegger, 92, of L’Anse, Mich., passed away Thursday, September 7, 2017, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center, Iron Mountain, Mich.

He was born July 8, 1925, in Midland, Mich., son of the late Jacob and Lena (Publeo) Sonderegger. Franklin grew up in Midland and before graduating high school, entered the United States Army, serving in WWII during the Battle of the Bulge. After his Honorable Discharge, he resided in Traverse City, Mich., where he was employed as a superintendent for the Union from 1950 until his retirement in 1990.

In 2005 Franklin moved to L’Anse, Mich. where he enjoyed fishing, golfing, shopping for great deals and the outdoors.

He is survived by two sons, Bryant (Terry) Sonderegger, Nisula, Mich. and Jacob (Cleo) Sonderegger, Traverse City, Mich.; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Franklin, was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis (Gerst) Sonderegger, 1993 and second wife, Pauline (Dennis) Sonderegger, 2015; one son, Phillip Sonderegger; one daughter Cathy Olson; four brothers, Laura, Dwight, Karl and Walt; one sister, Barbara Paquette; and one grandson, Phillip Olson.

Graveside services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, Traverse City, Mich. Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich. is handling local arrangements.
