Obituary for Robert J. "Chet" Person

Robert J. "Chet"  Person
Arizona-
Robert J. “Chet” Person, age 93, of Phoenix, Ariz., passed away Monday, August 28, 2017, at the Corinthian Assisted Living in Chandler, Ariz., after a brief illness.

He was born in Iron Mountain, Mich., on November 26, 1923, son of the late Olaf and Amanda (Swanson) Person. Chet grew up in Iron Mountain, Mich., and graduated from Iron Mountain High School, Class of 1942. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a “Seabee” during WWII in the South Pacific in Tarawa, the Kwajalein and the Marshall Islands until his honorable discharge on January 19, 1946. Chet was united in marriage to Gloria Selmo on September 13, 1947, at the Immaculate Conception Church, Iron Mountain. She preceded him in death on January 9, 2011.

Chet was a Master Plumber who worked many construction sites in the UP and Wisconsin. He was a lifetime member of the Upper Peninsula Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Local 111. Chet was also a past member of the Elks and Golden K. Chet, and Gloria enjoyed traveling in their motorhome during their retirement years, but he was happiest when spending time with family and friends. He was a “grill master” and a diehard fan of the Green Bay Packers and Michigan State. Chet will be remembered for his sly smile, quick wit and being the best dad and grandpa ever.

Survivors include two daughters, Cathy (Randy) Turcotte of Tempe, Ariz. and Joann Person of Chandler, Ariz.; and his favorite granddaughter, Nicole Turcotte, also of Tempe, Ariz.

In addition to his parents, and wife, Gloria, Chet was preceded in death by one brother, Walter (Nipp) Person.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 8, 2017, from 11:30.am until 12:30 pm at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Funeral Service will be held Friday, at 12:30 pm at the funeral home. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain. The Uren Cooper Johnson American Legion Post #50 will accord military honors
