Obituary for Michael F. Kanieski

Michael F.  Kanieski
Crystal Falls-Michael F. Kanieski, 87, of Alpha, Mich., passed away Friday, August 18, 2017, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center, Iron Mountain, Mich.

He was born April 8, 1930, in Crystal Falls, son of the late Felix and Ann (Broskovetz) Kanieski. Michael grew up in Alpha, Mich. and graduated from Alpha High School, Class of 1948. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1951 until 1953 in the Korean War. In 1965 through 1967 he served in the Peace Corps where Michael met his wife, Nineth Madrid and they married on June 30, 1967, in Guatemala City, Guatemala. They resided in Alpha, and he worked as a security guard in Iron Mountain for a few years. Michael started his own dairy farm in 1969 and worked it until 1993 at which time it became a hobby farm until 2015.

He enjoyed hunting, the outdoors, cutting wood and especially the time he spent with his family.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Nineth, Alpha, one son, Robert J. Kanieski, Winter Park Colo.; two daughters, Mary Ann (Gregor Koso) Kanieski, South Bend, Ind. and Lynn (Dan Kochanski) Kanieski, Skandia, Mich.; one brother, Frank Suber, Arizona; and two grandchildren, Nineth and Alexandra Koso.
In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by one sister, Kathryn Robinson.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 23, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls, Mich. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Doug Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls, Mich. The East Side Veterans Council will accord Military Honors at graveside.
