Obituary for David W. McDowell

David W.  McDowell
Kingsford-David W. McDowell Jr., 88, of Kingsford, Mich., passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain, Mich.

He was born July 4, 1929, in Ayer, Mass., son of the late David Sr. and Frances (Gardner) McDowell. David grew up in Massachusetts and enlisted in the United States Army at a young age. After being Honorably Discharged from the service, David married Betty Jean Sacchetti on July 25, 1948 in Colorado Springs, Colo. After being married they moved to Kingsford. They celebrated their 69th anniversary this year.

David was a mechanic for a few years and worked as an Assistant Manager at the A&P Grocery store for years as well as various other occupations. He was an active member of the First Covenant Church, Iron Mountain and served as a youth group leader and usher for many years. David enjoyed woodworking, camping, traveling, and the time he spent with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving wife, Betty, Maryhill Manor, Niagara, Wis.; three sons, Doug (Marti) McDowell, Iron Mountain, Mich., Dan (Lynn) McDowell, Farmington, Minn. and DuWayne (Julie) McDowell, Greenwood, Mich.; one daughter, Sandie (Todd) Essendrup, Iron Mountain, Mich.; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one daughter in law, Diane (Gerald) Anderson, Ellsworth, Wis.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by one son, David Allen McDowell.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich. Funeral services will be Saturday, 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Larry Neargarth will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain, Mich.
