Obituary for Douglass B. Showers

Douglass B.  Showers
Amasa-Douglass B. Showers, 48, of Amasa, Mich.; passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at his home.

He was born June 28, 1968 in Warren, Ohio, to William H. Showers Jr. and Bonnie (Douglass) Blaha. Doug graduated from Newton Falls High School in Newton Falls, Ohio, Class of 1986. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from June of 1986 until December of 1992.

Doug was united in marriage October 9, 1993 to Sherrilyn Clairmont at Bethany Lutheran Church, Amasa.
He enjoyed coaching elementary girls’ basketball, youth football, and was a VP of the Youth Football League. Doug previously served on the Alpha Fire Dept. as a former assistant chief. He had been a mechanic at Brunos for over five years and had previously worked as a certified lumber grader before becoming a mechanic. Above all Doug enjoyed the time he spent with his wife and family.

Survivors include his loving wife, Sherrilyn Showers, Amasa; three sons, Brian (Samantha) Showers, Norway, Mich., Thomas Showers and Matthew Showers, Both of Amasa; one daughter, Rebecca Showers, Amasa; two grandchildren, Madeline Rosengren and Ryder Showers; his parents, William (Sharon) Showers Jr., Newton Falls, Ohio and Bonnie Blaha, Hillsboro, Wisc.; one brother, Greg Showers, Newton Falls, Ohio; two sisters, Brandy Rieck, Union Center, Wis. and Lori (David) Voltz, Hillsboro, Wis.; three step-sisters, Michelle Ciferno-Fry, Stacie Kaldy and Alexis Ciferno; maternal grandmother, Ruth Plekowski, Temecula, California; father-in-law and mother- in- law, Doug and Linda Clairmont, Crystal Falls Township; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, Francis Blaha; and three grandparents, Thomas W. Douglass, William Showers Sr. and Bernadette Showers.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 1, 2017, from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Joe Mechon Memorial Park, Amasa, Mich. A memorial service will take place at 4:00 p.m. at the Park. Rev. Mike Laakko will officiate. East Side Veterans Honor Guard will accord military honors.
