Obituary for Donald J. Furno

Donald J.  Furno
Iron Mountain-Donald J. Furno, age 86, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center, Iron Mountain.

He was born May 25, 1930 in Iron Mountain, son of the late Domenic and Mary (Badini) Furno. Donald graduated from Iron Mountain High School, Class of 1948. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1953.

Donald was united in marriage to Patricia Wilson on June 26, 1954 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Together they owned and operated Furno’s Tavern from 1956 until their retirement in 1983.

Donald wintered in Florida and enjoyed hunting, fishing, making wine and gardening.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Patricia; one son, Michael (Debbie) Furno, Iron Mountain, Mich.; one daughter, Mary (John) Brooks, Spread Eagle, Wis.; two brothers, Louis Furno, California and Raymond (Janet) Furno, Racine, Wis.; three grandchildren, Domenic “Nick”, Dustin and David; one brother-in-law, Jim (Kathy) Wilson, Kingsford, Mich.; one sister-in-law, Carol Poquette, Iron Mountain; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by one brother, Claude Furno and two sisters, Josephine Heisenfeldt and Gloria Larson.

In accordance with Donald’s wishes private family graveside services will be held. Kingsford American Legion Carpenter-Clash Post #363 will accord Military Honors. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
