Obituary for "Tinker" Dege K. Hurzeler

"Tinker" Dege K.  Hurzeler
“Tinker” Dege K. Hurzeler, 85, of Niagara, Wis., passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Mary Hill Manor in Niagara.

He was born May 31, 1931 in Milwaukee, Wis., son of the late Paul and Lois (Raash) Hurzeler. Tinker grew up and attended school in Milwaukee. He worked for the Milwaukee Road Railroad prior to moving to Niagara in 1970 and working as a Roadmaster in Iron Mountain and Channing for the railroad. Tinker then worked for the Niagara Paper Mill for 9 years before retiring. He was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Genac on May 26, 1956. Together they were blessed with nine children.

Tinker was a devoted member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where he had been head of church ushers since 1980. He also belonged to the Model Railroad Club in Milwaukee in the 1940’s. He loved his pets and animals, but was most passionate about being a grandpa.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Beverly Hurzeler, Niagara; nine children, Kenneth (Gayle), Thomas (Denise), Mary (Bob) Plonty, Judy (Vince) Stec, James (April), John (Kathy), Daniel (Concetta), Joseph (Shelly) and Michelle (Steve) Schefter, nine grandchildren; Shalynn (Neil) Dora, Leanne Hurzeler, Melissa (Kyle) Anderson, Brian (Amanda) Hurzeler, Roger John (Amanda)Thomson, Stefanie (Jordan) Pugh, Daniel (Tierney) Thomson, Alicia Hurzeler and Chelsea (Charlie) McGauvran; seven great-grandchildren, Casey, Greyson, Mea, Kaylee, Madilynn, Ethan, Lexie, Tristan, Zoey and Auriella; one brother, Robert (Lynn) Hurzeler, Amberg, Wis.; special model railroader friend, Dick Roberts; and by numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, at the Church. Rev. Fr. Matt Settle will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Milwaukee, Wis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Karen’s Food Pantry at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Niagara.
