Obituary for Lee Douglas Spencer

Lee Douglas Spencer
Iron Mountain-Lee Douglas Spencer, fondly known as Doug to friends and family, was taken into God’s grace on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 after spending his last days in the loving care of his family and the kind staff at Maryhill Manor in Niagara, WI. He was born February 13, 1932 in Iron Mountain, Michigan and was a life-long resident of the Lake Antoine area.

Doug worked as a machinist at Eagle Tool and Kingsford Broach & Tool, and was forever a tinkerer. He spent many hours in his garage at the workbench in the meticulous study of fixing his loved ones’ and neighbors’ vacuums, lawn mowers, or other mechanical devices that would puzzle the most astute mechanical mind. He enjoyed working on cars and made a habit of going through the standard service checks of tire pressure, battery health, fluid levels and fan-belts when friends and family would visit. He wouldn’t think of letting anyone leave his driveway with a dirty windshield. Doug never heard a joke that he didn’t like to retell, just as long as he didn’t have to remember the punchline or rely on timing to get the point across.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jean Caldon-Spencer, loving children Steven Spencer of Sagola, Dale (Linda) Spencer of Iron Mountain, Debbie Spencer (Fred) Huber of De Pere, WI, Marsha Spencer (Steve) Conery of Kingsford, and Pamela Spencer Maroni of Quinnesec. Doug leaves many grandchildren Michael and Mathew Spencer, Devin Spencer, Jackie Robert, Patrick, Paul, Jeffery, and Emily Makoutz, Jason and Ryan Conery, Jennifer Maroni (Jason) Fredy, and Justin and Jessica Bocks. They all want to thank Grandpa for his laughs and good times shared fishing, raspberry picking, driving lessons and sparing them mostly from too many bad jokes. Doug is also survived by many great-grandchildren who did not have nearly enough time to spend with this kind, funny, and gentle soul of a man.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents Emerson and Alvina Peterson-Spencer, his brother Robert D. Spencer, also life-long residents of the community. He was also preceded in death by grandsons Joseph and Jason and great-grandson Jerimiah.

At Mr. Spencer's request, there will be no services. Private services will be held by immediate family.
