Obituary for Robert "Bob" Rigoni

Robert "Bob"  Rigoni
IRON MOUNTAIN - Robert (Bob) Rigoni, passed away after a four-and-a-half-year battle with pancreatic cancer on June 26, 2016, with family by his side.

He was born May 9, 1936, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Avis and Joseph Rigoni.

Bob grew up in Iron Mountain and graduated from Iron Mountain High School, Class of 1954. He then attended Michigan State University where he met and married his wife Claudia and earned his degree in Business Administration in 1958. After graduation, he returned to Iron Mountain, and began his career with Bacco Construction. Bob spent more than 40 years as an owner and officer of the company. After retiring he continued to serve on the company’s board of directors until his passing.

Throughout his life he enjoyed spending time at camp on Sundog Lake. In the early days he hunted and fished there with his grandfather and later with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed skiing and spent many family vacations on the ski slopes of Colorado. In recent years, he found the golf courses and sea breezes of Florida’s Gulf Coast more to his liking. Another passion of his was music. Bob sang during his years at Michigan State in the MSU Glee Club and a barbershop quartet. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain and a member of Christus Victor Lutheran Church in Naples, Florida where he sang in both church choirs. Bob also enjoyed singing with many other local groups including Golden K.

He served as the president for Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce, The Chippewa Club, and the Dunes of Naples Condominium Association. Bob also spent a number of years on the Board of Directors of the Michigan Road Builders Association including serving as a Vice President of the organization.

Bob is survived by his wife, of 58 years, Claudia (Roberts); his children, David (Robin) Rigoni of Kingsford, Doug (Berta) Rigoni of Iron Mountain, and Dian (Jeff) Newkirk of Washington, Ill.; his grandchildren, Chris (Melissa) Rigoni, Steve (Lindsay) Rigoni, Robby Rigoni and Payton, Emma, and Mary Newkirk; great- grandchildren, Anthony, Sofia, and Claire; his sister Jean Harper and nephew Scott of Charlottesville, Va. and most importantly, he is survived by his faithful dog and companion, Jake.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mahadev and Dr. Morel for their exceptional and compassionate care.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Iron Mountain. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, 12:00 p.m. at the church. Rev. Bob Gordon will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Rigoni, Steve Rigoni, Bobby Rigoni, Payton Newkirk, Chris Rigotti, and Michael Werner. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jim Verrette, John Jamar, Jack Fortier, Don Swanson, Larry Juul, Larry Capra, Don Quick and Bill Trudell.

A memorial will be established in Bob’s memory.
