Lorraine C. Dunkel (Nichols)
FLORENCE, Wis. – Lorraine C. Dunkel, 86, of Florence passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016, at Patient Pines Assisted Living in Green Bay, Wis.

She was born May 16, 1929, in Stambaugh, Mich., daughter of the late Benidict and Carol (Hanmer) Nichols.

Lorraine grew up in Fence. She married Gustave Dunkel on August 21, 1948, in Armstrong Creek, Wis.; he preceded her in death on February 17, 1977. They lived in Appleton for 5 years before moving to Florence in 1950. Lorraine worked at the Florence Grade School as a Teacher’s Aide and also did home visits for the Florence County Aging Commission. She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxiliary. Lorraine enjoyed arts and crafts, sitting on her patio watching birds and spending time with family and friends. She loved music her entire life and in her younger years, loved to dance. Lorraine was an excellent cook and baker; her chocolate sheet cake became a favorite treat at family gatherings.

She is survived by one son, James (Marilyn) Dunkel of Florence; two daughters, Janice (Tom) Jonet of Florence and Diane (John) Zenz of Green Bay, Wis.; two brothers, Dale (Helen) Nichols of Fence and Gordon Nichols of Florence; one sister, Deanna Rohde of South Milwaukee; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Gustave, she was preceded in death by an infant son, James Walter; granddaughter, Angelia Krolikowski, and four brothers, Roger, William, Duane and Douglas Nichols.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 18, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Florence. The Funeral Service will be held Monday, 11:00 a.m. at the church. Rev. Robin Zeratsky will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Florence.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. James Williams and his nurse Ruth, Heidi RN of Compassus Hospice, Toni Carter and Barb Zambon of Patient Pines Assisted Living and all of their staff.
