Obituary for Eunice G. Morin (Racicot)

Eunice G. Morin, 95, of Niagara, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at Maryhill Manor, Niagara.

She was born October 4, 1919, in Milwaukee, Wis., daughter of the late Louis and Selma (Schuster) Racicot.

Eunice grew up in Schaeffer, Mich. and graduated from Escanaba High School. She married Frederick Morin on May 23, 1939, in Schaeffer; he preceded her in death on December 15, 1966. The couple resided in various U.P. communities; they moved to Niagara in 1946. Eunice worked at Marcouiller’s grocery store, Kimberly Clark, LeQuia’s grocery store and Bob’s Mobile Homes. She retired from the Niagara Public Library where she was very active in acquiring the grants needed to upgrade the library’s facilities. Eunice was instrumental in the creation of the Pier’s Gorge International Rafting Competition; she held a position on the board at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara, was a Girl Scout Leader when her girls were young and was very active in the American Legion Cretton-Tutas Post No. 136 Auxiliary.

She enjoyed tending to her house hold plants, her large fish aquarium and her birds.

Eunice is survived by three daughters, Janice Maes, Niagara, Sharon (John) Roberts, Aurora, Colo. and Cathy (Roger) Chapman, Niagara; two sisters, Geraldine DeMars and Donna (Don) Erickson, both of Escanaba; one daughter-in-law, Judy Morin, Burnsville, Minn.; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Frederick, she was preceded in death by one son, Dale Morin; one son-in-law, Douglas Maes; two brothers, Harold and Melvin Racicot and two sisters, Delores Cutler and Vera Gaudrault.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 1, 2015, form 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara. The Funeral Mass will be Thursday, 11:00 a.m. at the church. Fr. Matt Settle will officiate. Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery, Niagara.

In Eunice’s memory donations can be made to the Niagara Public Library or Maryhill Manor.
