Many moons ago when my kids were young I convinced Kathy into betting Don a dollar that she could cross the living room walking on her hands. So he bet her a dollar and she bent over and placed her feet on top of her hands and walked across the living room! Don said she had cheated with a big laugh but eventually he coughed up the dollar.

I met Don very soon after Jill and I moved to Florence County. We shared a mutual interest in aviation and it wasn't long before Don became a pilot. One thing I remember about Don, that we all know, is that he was very tall. But you may not have realized that he was mostly legs. The first time I noticed this is when Don came to my hangar at the airport and tried to climb into one of my airplanes, which is really considered one of the largest in the four seat variety as far as cabin room is concerned. Don had to tug quite a bit to get his long legs in position in the pilot's seat and for a little while, I thought I was going to have to get a crane to get him out. Over the years, Don would stop at my workshop and see what kind of projects we had going. He was always interested and liked to look around. More recently, I saw Don at our favorite restaurant and after buying me a drink, stopped by to talk a bit about politics. In his very nice way, he chastised me a bit for the terms I used describing our current administration. We laughed about that and Don and Theresa went on their way. Some time back, he tried to get me interested in local politics and I decided it was better in the hands of business people like Don. Theresa was lucky to find Don, just as much as Don was lucky to find Theresa. Jill and I wish him Godspeed and the best to the family.

My Grandpa is a really great guy. I am so lucky to have gone to Europe with him and spend time with all the family. One memory that I remember was playing black jack in the cabin basement with him. This was so enjoyable for me because I got to spend quality time with him and all my aunts and uncles. I love you and will miss you.

Remember the song, "Someday My Prince Will Come" Well fairytales do come true. Mine came with the name "Don" and from that first moment when I looked at his kind and handsome face with the smile and personality that lit up my heart, I fell deeply in love. Thank you sweet man of mine for all the beautiful memories I cherish and Thank God for in the gift he gave me in you. Always, Theresa

I have so many memories with Grandpa that I would love to share including our trip to Europe and being up north, but one of my favorite times with him was when I was in third grade. He surprised us when my brothers and I came off the bus. We were on the porch and I was on Grandpa's lap and my mom was trying to take pictures of us and we were making funny faces at the camera. We decided to make a sad face at the camera, but because we were laughing so hard neither of us could (it is very evident in the picture). I still have 3 of those pictures framed in my room and whenever I see them I think back to that day and how much fun we had. Grandpa, I have so many memories to thank you for. I love you and will miss you.

When an earthly father leaves a legacy, like his daughter Sue, you know he was a good and decent man. When your perfect, heavenly Father promises eternity with Him, free of pain and tears, you know there is hope. When you know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, you know that hope is real. Praying that the God of all Hope embrace you and fill you with the joy of death defeated at the Cross.

I never thought of you as my step-grandpa, you were just Grandpa Don. I will miss our heated political debates and I will never forget when you told me "you need to be a bleeding-heart liberal before you become a die-hard conservative". Thank you for all the fond memories Up North, for inspiring me to explore the world, and for always making me feel like a part of the Gardiner clan. You will be so missed.
