Obituary for Virginia C. Peterson (DePas)

Virginia C. Peterson, 87, of Niagara, Wis. passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain.

She was born September 29, 1927, daughter of the late Arthur and Florine (Warren) DePas.

Virginia grew up in Niagara and graduated from Niagara High School, Class of 1946. She worked at the Niagara Mill Club House and then moved to Evanston, Ill. where she worked for a radio manufacturing company. Virginia went on to become a cosmetologist; she relocated to Iron Mountain and worked for the JCPenney Company. She married Ernest “Pete” Peterson on March 31, 1951, at Union Protestant Church, Niagara. They resided in Kingsford, Mich. for seven years before making Niagara their home. Virginia was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Quinnesec, Mich.

She enjoyed many hobbies, including, cooking, baking, ceramics and knitting, especially for the annual church bazaar. Virginia was a Green Bay Packers fan and loved spending time with her family.

Virginia is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Pete; one son, Dan (Kris) Peterson, Rhinelander, Wis.; one daughter, Cindy (Mike) Suheski, Spread Eagle, Wis.; one brother, Louie (Kathy) DePas, Iron Mountain; one sister, Dorothy Zimmerman, Wash.; four grandchildren, Jackie (Brian), Debbie (Kent) Sherry and Karen; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by one brother, LeRoy DePas and two sisters, Joan Sherman and Nancy Skogman.

Visitation will be Friday, January 23, 2015, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Funeral Services will be Friday, 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Linda Forray, LLM will officiate.

The family has chosen the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain to honor Virginia’s Legacy of Life.
